FOREWORD

The theme of the Rencontres de l’Illustration, “Women, Identities, Visibilities”, is concentrated here under the term Visibles, which has served as a common thread.
Our emblematic exhibition brings together the Belgian artist Dominique Goblet and Nygel Panasco from Strasbourg, who is also known by this name for her solo concerts. The poster exhibition on the quayside features characters of often undefined gender from Joseph Levacher’s comic strip La Légende des Champs de Feu, published by Magnani this autumn.

Also to be followed is the exhibition and meeting at the Bouquinette with the illustrator Célia Housset around her book published by the inclusive edition On Ne Compte Pas Pour du Beurre, that of Christelle Diale at the Oiseau Rare, Mona Granjon at Demi-douzaine. Visible as well as almost non-existent Les Scrunchies, a rock band imagined by Clara Hervé whose universe will be discovered (and heard?) at l’Orée 85. Well hidden is the basement exhibition of Betonite, the most underground collective west of the Rhine. On the 2nd floor, with a street corner, the exhibition of Simon Burger and Inès Rousset at the Avila hairdresser’s and we are promised surprises with the creator of the Sauroctones, Erwann Surcouf at the Le Tigre bookshop.

For the second year, a referee will be the leader of the Battlestar and for its first musical accompaniment, the Parade of the Micronations will be supported by the feminist choir.

We also refer you to the editorial of our president Amélie Dufour in the pdf and paper programme, for some details on the history of women in our festival and in the association.

Independent publishing comes in the form of SMEs, associations, micro or self-publishing collectives. Whether it takes a vow of rigor or devotes itself to chaos, it constitutes in Alsace, in France and  elsewhere, a privileged space of creative freedom. Children’s books, abstract drawings, delicate objects, silk-screened posters, comic book fanzines or publications not to be put in just any hands, all the trends of independent graphic arts publishing are represented. We have chosen our guests with care: come and meet them and discover their creations on the show!
