The 24h event is back home this year! For a change of scenery, we have the 12 participants of the Invisible Lines project from all over Europe. The theme: crossing borders, young refugees will draw alongside the illustrators.

From friday 9 July at 1pm to saturday 10 July at 1pm, twenty illustrators from Europe, Strasbourg, the Limousin and elsewhere, living legends, experienced professionals and students, will create non-stop.
During these 24 hours, one hour of visit will be dedicated friday to allow the public to discover their work live. The rest of the event will be broadcasted on 24h-illustration.tumblr.com and Instagram The final works will be presented to the public at the same time as the exhibition of the original productions, on saturday evening from 6pm to 10pm.

Fifth edition

The 24h of illustration is a declination of the 24h of comics. The constraints (theme, format, number of images, colours, etc.) associated with the performance of the 24h offer a new framework to illustrators.
It is an opportunity to work together, even if it is not completely collective. Time limit and the physical challenges are specific to the experimentation in techniques but also in the way of thinking about the work.
To the twelve young graduates who came from nine European countries to follow the Invisible Lines Strasbourg workshop with their mentor Yvan Algabé , we add our own selection: Erwan Surcouf, Garance Coquart, Antoinette Metzger, Quentin Bohuon and Salomé Garraud.
With the theme of Crossing Borders, our contribution to the exploration of the Invisible Lines, we had the will to involve refugees who will participate in the 24 hours in the same way as the illustrators. (Their complicated situation makes this participation uncertain).

At the helm of this edition are the illustrators Anne Laval, Violaine Leroy, Célia Housset and Éloïse Rey, with the support of volunteers and employees of Central Vapeur. And further afield, in the mountains of the Sudetenland and the holds of the European liner, our friends from the Cini Foundation, the Hamelin association and the Baobab publishing house.

Des 24h à domicile cette année. Pour le  dépaysement, on a les 12 participants du projet Invisible Lines venu·e·s de toute l’Europe. Thème: le franchissement de frontières, de jeunes réfugié·e·s dessineront aux côtés des illustrateurices.

Du vendredi 9 juillet 13h, au samedi 10 juillet 13h, une vingtaine d’illustrateurices, venu·e·s d’Europe Strasbourg, du Limousin et d’ailleurs, légende vivante, professionnel·le·s confirmé·e·s ou encore étudiant·e·s, créera sans relâche.
Pendant les 24h, une heure de visite permettra au public de découvrir le travail en direct le vendredi, également retransmis sur 24h-illustration.tumblr.com et Instagram. Les œuvres finales seront présentées au public en même temps que l’exposition des originaux produits, le samedi soir de 18h à 22h.

Les 24h de l’illustration déclinent le principe des 24h de la bande dessinée. Les contraintes (thème, format, nombre d’images, couleurs, etc.) liées à la performance des 24h proposent un cadre nouveau aux illustrateurs.
C’est l’occasion d’un travail à mener à plusieurs, même s’il n’est pas complètement collectif. La limitation dans le temps, l’épreuve physique sont propres à l’expérimentation dans les techniques mais aussi dans la manière de penser le travail.
Aux douze jeunes diplômé·e·s venus de neuf pays européens pour suivre le workshop Invisible Lines Strasbourg avec  leur mentor Yvan Algabé, s’ajoute notre sélection maison :  Erwan Surcouf, Garance Coquart, Antoinette Metzger, Quentin Bohuon et Salomé Garraud.
Avec le thème du Franchissement de frontières, notre contribution à l’exploration  des Lignes Invisibles, nous avons aussi souhaité associer des réfugié·e·s qui participent aux 24h au même titre que les illustrateurices. (Leur situation compliquée rend aléatoire cette participation)

Aux commandes de cette édition  les illustratrices  Anne Laval, Violaine Leroy, Célia Housset et Éloïse Rey, avec le renfort de bénévoles et salarié·e·s de  Central Vapeur. Et plus loin dans les montagnes des Sudètes et les  soutes du paquebot européen, nos  amis de la Fondation Cini, de l’association Hamelin et des éditions Baobab.

Central Vapeur will be at the graphic design school LISAA Strasbourg, for a new performance / residence / workshop in 24h with  thematic and technical constraints.

From Thursday, October 25 at 1 pm, to Friday, October 26 at 1 pm, about twenty illustrators, from Strasbourg in the Région Grand Est  and elsewhere, experienced professionals or students, will create relentlessly.
During the 24h, an hour of visit will allow the public to discover the work live, also broadcasted on 24h-illustration.tumblr.com. An edition of the works will be produced on site and presented to the public at the same time as the exhibition of the original products, on Friday evening from 7 PM.

24h Fourth edition

The 24h illustration is inspired by the principle of 24 hours of comics, imported for the first time in Europe by Sylvain-Moizie Rondet from the Institut Pacôme in Strasbourg. The constraints (theme, format, number of images, colors, etc.) related to the 24h performance offer a new framework for illustrators.
Since 2015 this is the occasion of a work to lead to many, even if it is not completely collective. The limitation in time, the physical test are peculiar to the experimentation in the techniques but also in the way of thinking the work.
5 (former) students of LISAA, Higher Institute of Applied Arts which opens us its doors during the school holidays, come to reinforce the number of illustrators (trained at the HEAR, ESAL Epinal, Nancy or none of that) invited by Central Vapeur.  This edition willis organized by the illustrators and member of the DA of Central Vapeur Anne Laval and Eloise Rey, with the reinforcement of volunteers of Central Vapeur, teachers of LISAA and its direction. The belgian collective Cuistax will be in duplex on tumblr of the 24h from Brussels, the other capital of Europe, with a dozen illustrators.

Pendant les 24h, une heure de visite a permis au public de découvrir le travail en direct, également retransmis sur 24h-illustration.tumblr.com. Une édition des travaux a été réalisée sur place et présentée au public en même temps que l’exposition des originaux produits, le vendredi soir entre 19h et 21h00.

Troisième édition

Les 24h de l’illustration déclinent le principe des 24h de la bande dessinée, importées pour la première fois en Europe par Sylvain-Moizie de l’Institut Pacôme à Strasbourg. Les contraintes (thème, format, nombre d’images, couleurs, etc.) liées à la performance des 24h proposent un cadre nouveau aux illustrateurs.
C’est l’occasion d’un travail à mener à plusieurs, même s’il n’est pas complètement collectif. La limitation dans le temps, l’épreuve physique sont propres à l’expérimentation dans les techniques mais aussi dans la manière de penser le travail.
La programmation conjointe d’Inuit et de Central Vapeur a également permis de créer des rencontres inédites entre illustrateurs unis autour de l’objectif d’une édition finale, réalisée sur place en risographie par Pierre Faedi, des éditions Gargarismes et Marco Tavarnesi d’Inuit.

The conditions (theme, size, number of pictures, colors, etc.) established by the 24h de l’illustration offer a new working environment for the illustrators. It is the opportunity to work together even if it is not completely a collective work. The limited time and the physical challenge belong to experimentations in technics and in the way of thinking the work. The program established by Inuit and Central Vapeur was also a way to create new meetings between illustrators and to reunite them around a common goal: a final publication of their work printed with a risograph on the spot by Pierre Faedi from éditions Gargarismes and Marco Tavarnesi from Inuit.

Seconde édition après un premier essai franco-allemand en 2013

Les 24h de l’illustration déclinent le principe des 24h de la bande dessinée, importées pour la première fois en Europe par Sylvain-Moizie (de l’Institut Pacôme à Strasbourg) d’après la performance imaginée par Scott McCloud aux USA. Strasbourg devient aussi la base de départ des 24h de l’illustration, après l’expérience “L’index-Les 24h de l’illustration” menée avec le programme franco-allemand Volk.
Les contraintes (thème, format, nombre d’images, couleurs, etc.) liées à la performance des 24h proposent un cadre nouveau aux illustrateurs.
C’est l’occasion d’un travail à mener à plusieurs, même s’il n’est pas complètement collectif. La limitation dans le temps, l’épreuve physique sont propres à l’expérimentation dans les techniques mais aussi dans la manière de penser le travail.
La programmation conjointe des Rhubarbus et de Central Vapeur permet également de créer des rencontres inédites entre illustrateurs unis autour de l’objectif d’une édition finale, réalisée sur place par le sérigraphe Pierre Faedi.

2nd edition after a French-German first try in 2013

Strasbourg becomes also the starting point of 24h de l’illustration after the experimentation « L’index – Les 24h de l’illustration » led by the French-German programm Volk.

The programm established by Rhubarbus and Central Vapeur was also a way to create new meetings between illustrators and to reunite them around a common goal: a final publication of their work printed with a risograph on the spot by the silk-screen printer Pierre Faedi.
